Focus on Reading
The Mustang Public Schools' goal is to have 90% of our students by the end of third grade reading on or above grade level.
Research tells us that 74% of those not reading on grade level by the end of third grade will never "catch up." It is imperative for teachers, parents and community to be committed to helping our children learn to read and to read well.
Parents need to begin to read to their child as soon as it is born and continue to read, at least 20 minutes a day, until their child is at least in middle school.
This gives them language experience and helps in vocabulary development. Not only does this help with the child's reading, it also is an ideal way to spend quality time with the child.
Please join us in helping to develop a community of readers!
