National Young Readers Day - an annual reminder of the benefits and rewards of reading.
To celebrate, BOOK IT! schools across the country are invited to host "celebrity" read-ins where local heroes - whether it be a fire fighter, policeman, someone in the armed forces or any former young reader - to read a favorite children’s book to the students.
National Young Readers Day is a day that was created by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress in 1989 as a way to celebrate literacy in schools.
